THE TOMB

Summary

One of the more interesting projects within Interaction Design was “The Tomb”.  We were tasked with designing an interactive experience for alumni of the school to discover. In groups, we were tasked with bringing this experience to life through a free to use game design software called Unity. In our group, we decided to commit to the idea of a scavenger hunt within the school to find a link to the game’s website. The resulting game was heavily inspired by this idea and evolved to become a hunt for artifacts.

VR Compatibility

We decided to go with a first person experience so that it would be possible to incorporate virtual reality via a loaned Oculus Rift system. We found later that the graphics level was too high for the Oculus to work effectively, however we later were able to figure out a way to only render the rooms that were near the players to improve frame-rate. The result was visibly less impressive, but the novelty of VR was interesting given the perspective of the game.

 What I Learned

I had to learn C# and other coding languages on the fly, as well as how to create textures and UV mapping for the way they fit onto my 3D models. I also had to figure out the best way to use Rhino to form the vectors that traps would travel in the game. Overall this exercise was one of my most fulfilling projects, as I started with almost no knowledge of game design, but was proud of the resulting product.
